The annual TV special celebrates the best of man's best friend.
For the past 13 years, the National Dog Show has crowned the best of American purebred dogs. A new champion will be named Thanksgiving Day on NBC.
Boasting an annual audience of more than 20 million television viewers, the 2014 National Dog Show presented by Purina will be hosted by John O'Hurley, the actor best known for portraying "J. Peterman" on the popular '90s sitcom Seinfeld. He is joined by David Frei, an expert purebred analyst from Westminster Kennel Club on USA Network. Mary Carillo will provide backstage reporting.
This year's show spotlights two American Kennel Club-recognized breeds, the Coton de Tulear and the Wirehaired Vizsla. This is the first time that either breed has competed on the National Dog Show.
In addition to the competition, Purina will provide two presentations on promoting pet health. These presentations will include the company's breakthroughs in sustaining pet brain function as well as information from nutritional experts.
NBC's coverage includes a two-hour special that directly follows the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Viewers find additional content such as all seven group competition videos and Best in Show by streaming through the NBC Sports Live Extra app. NBC Sports will also post photos and videos of the backstage action.
