The Minnesota Wild has selected forward prospect Alex Tuch with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Tuch, 18, is a right-handed shooter who spent time at both center and right wing. Tuch has spent the last several seasons in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and has represented the United States internationally on two occasions. Selected with the No. 94 overall pick by the Guelph Storm in the 2012 Ontario Hockey League priority draft, Tuch has opted to continue his development in the United States. He is currently committed to play for Boston College in the 2014-15 season.

Listed at 6'3, 213 pounds, Tuch is described as a prototypical power forward by the ISS. Ranked as the No. 14 overall prospect in the ISS yearend evaluation, Tuch is praised for his physicality and a heavy shot. His foot speed is considered an area weakness, and the ISS scouts would like to see more "elite" skill in the offensive zone:

Tuch is a big body American with a skill set and upside that makes him one of the most intriguing power forward prospects in the draft this year. A somewhat disappointing end to his season at the World U18's may have raised a few concerns. He showed the ability to play on a line with fellow prospect Sonny Milano and 2015 stud Jack Eichel, although, at times not very effectively. However, his overall body of work this year for the NTDP keeps him in the mix as a potential first rounder. This, of course, may be best explained through the belief many big guys take longer to develop. In the end, his size, skill set, and upside, will make him hard to pass up. Bangs and chips in offensively plus has the ability to spot in on higher lines and special teams. Tuch's combination of size and skill make him a high value target at draft in Philly.
