Things don't get much easier for the Royals, who exchanged blows with the A's for 12 innings before finally coming out on top in Tuesday's A.L. Wild Card game.

After their captivating win over the Athletics in the American League Wild Card play-in game, the Royals travel west to take on the Angels in Game 1 of the ALDS on Thursday.

Kansas City beat Oakland Tuesday, 9-8, on Salvador Perez's walk-off double in the 12th inning. As their reward, the Royals are now tasked with facing the team that finished with the best record in baseball during the regular season.

The Angels will send Jered Weaver to the hill for his fourth career postseason start. Weaver, who finished with a 3.59 ERA this season, has allowed only three earned runs in 12⅓ innings in his two ALDS starts.

After missing much of the final four weeks of the regular season, Josh Hamilton will start Game 1 for the Angels in left field, batting seventh, manager Mike Scioscia announced on Wednesday.

The Royals and Angels split six meetings this season. The Halos outscored Kansas City, 30-26, in those contests. Mike Trout went 9-for-22 with three home runs, a double and five walks while appearing in all six games against the Royals. Lorenzo Cain brought his A-game when facing the Angels, finishing 10-for-27 with four doubles, a triple and four RBI.
