The draw for Copa America 2015 is set for Monday evening, but Chile, Argentina and Brazil already know their groups for the tournament. Chile have been put in Group A, while Argentina will be in Group B and Brazil in Group C.
Chile were put in Group A as hosts, while Argentina and Brazil's places were confirmed by the CONMEBOL Executive Committee on Sunday because they are the confederation's two top ranked teams, per the current FIFA world rankings.
Chile will play the tournament's opening match on June 11 in Santiago, where all of their group stage matches will be held. If they win their group, they could play every match of the tournament -- quarterfinals, semifinals and finals included -- at the recently expanded and renovated Estadio Nacional.
Argentina's first match will be on June 13 in La Serena. They will play their first two matches there then close out the group stage in Vina del Mar. Brazil's first contest is set for June 14 in Temuco, followed by two in Santiago.
The draw will be conducted at 6 p.m. ET and it it there that the entire fixture list will be determined. Chile, Argentina and Brazil will find out who else is in their groups for the 12-country tournament to crown the champion of South America.
South America has 10 member nations, all of whom automatically qualify for Copa America. CONMEBOL also invites two guest countries to give them the 12 teams needed, and for this tournament those countries are Mexico and Jamaica.
With a 12-team field, the top two teams in each of the three four-team groups advance to the knockout stages. They are joined by the two best third place teams in an eight-team quarterfinal. From there, it is knockout stages all the way to the final.
Uruguay are the defending Copa America champions, winning the tournament in 2011 when Argentina and Brazil were both shockingly eliminated in the quarterfinals on penalties. Argentina are the early favorites for 2015, having just gone to the World Cup final, and Lionel Messi will be desperate to collect not just his first senior team trophy for Argentina, but his country's first South American championship since 1993.
