Cam Newton did some throwing in Friday's practice. We break down the fantasy implications.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (ribs) did some throwing at practice on Friday and went through some drills. Running back DeAngelo Williams said Newton was not limited in practice, but he's still expected to be a game-time decision on the injury report for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He suffered a hairline fracture to his ribs back on Aug. 24, but Newton has maintained he'll be in the lineup the entire time. While he's a tough customer and isn't easy to bring down, the former Auburn Tiger takes a lot of contact and may have to play through some pain. The Bucs may look to get more pressure on the young quarterback, especially with the lack of receivers for Carolina.
Fantasy impact: Fantasy owners don't like game-time decisions, but at least there has been nothing to suggest he won't be in the lineup. He also has a later game on Sunday, which still isn't enough to worry too much. He's a QB1 in any format and should be started with confidence.
