The Vikings lead running back made a huge impact near the goal line in Week 4. We break down the fantasy implications.
Matt Asiata rushed for 78 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons. He also added three receptions for 22 yards on four targets on Sunday.
Second-string running back Jerick McKinnon outpaced Asiata by far, rushing for 135 yards on 18 carries. Asiata is still in control of the starting gig for the Minnesota Vikings, but the number of touches will likely be closer going forward.
Fantasy impact: The Vikings have been holding McKinnon back, but they unleashed him Sunday and it paid off. McKinnon is far more explosive than the plodding Asiata. That was never the issue, though. McKinnon is still a rookie working his way into an expanded role, and he earned increased touches in Week 4.
Asiata faces a weak Green Bay Packers run defense in Week 5. While McKinnon is starting to intrude on his touches, Asiata is still worth starting in your lineup as the No. 1 back for the Vikings. We'll see how long Minnesota leaves him as the starter if things continue to go this way.
