Ronaldinho has a new home. In Mexico.
The Brazilian has signed with Queretaro in Liga MX, making it seven clubs in five countries for the 2005 Ballon d'Or winner. Ronaldinho has been a free agent since July, when he parted ways with Atletico Mineiro to become a free agent. He had been linked with Boca Juniors, as well as various clubs in Brazil, but has opted for Queretaro.
That Ronaldinho has signed with Queretaro is odd. There have been rumors of him signing in MLS and Liga MX for years, but it always involved a glamour club, be it the LA Galaxy in MLS or Club America in Liga MX. Queretaro is a relatively small club, having never won a top flight title and playing in the country's 22nd biggest city. It isn't a natural fit by any means.
Queretaro are off to a decent start in the Apertura, collecting 10 points in seven matches, good for eighth in the table. With Ronaldinho in the fold, they will have to adapt to a player that does not put in much defensive work, but he brings them a great deal of creativity, which they sorely need.
Ronaldinho has made his way to North America, but it is Liga MX and Queretaro where he landed. It may be unusual, but it will be fun.
