The season opens Thursday, but odds makers have already decided the Broncos are favored to win the Super Bowl. See the latest future lines.
The Denver Broncos are 26-5 SU and 20-11 ATS over their last 31 games, and the defending AFC champions enter the season as the betting favorite to win the Super Bowl at 6/1.
Denver's offense was historically great last season, racking up 457.3 yards per game and 37.9 points per game. Peyton Manning enjoyed the best season of his illustrious career with 5,477 passing yards and 55 passing touchdowns and is favored to pocket yet another MVP award.
This offseason, the Broncos addressed their defense by adding defensive end DeMarcus Ware, safety T.J. Ward and cornerback Aqib Talib. If Manning stays healthy, the Broncos are clearly the team to beat in the AFC.
Not far behind Denver on the betting board are the New England Patriots at 7/1 to win the Super Bowl. New England has been one of the NFL's most consistently dominant teams over the last decade with 11 straight seasons with a double-digit win total and 10 division titles over that stretch.
The Seattle Seahawks (13/2) and the San Francisco 49ers (15/2) will duke it out for the top spot in the NFC West, which many believe could also be the top spot in the entire conference.
San Francisco upgraded its receiving corps with the additions of Stevie Johnson and Brandon Lloyd while Seattle kept the core of its elite Super Bowl winning defense together. Both teams are worth a bet on the Super Bowl, and the team that earns home field in the playoffs will be even more dangerous.
The two teams that appear to be most likely to crack last year's final four are the Green Bay Packers (10/1) and the New Orleans Saints (12/1). The Packers have proven to be an elite team in recent years while Aaron Rodgers is healthy and could compete for a bye if he stays on the field in 2014. They open with a tough match at Seattle.
The Saints also have an elite quarterback in Drew Brees and bounced back nicely in Sean Payton's return last season with a 12-6 SU and 10-7-1 ATS season.
Other potential Super Bowl contenders this season include the Chicago Bears (20/1), Indianapolis Colts (20/1), Philadelphia Eagles (20/1), Detroit Lions (33/1), Pittsburgh Steelers (33/1), and San Diego Chargers (33/1).
