Vin Scully is, unsurprisingly, just the broadcaster you want calling the first pitch by an 100-year-old Dodgers fan.
Vin Scully and the Dodgers go way back, but even he doesn't have as much history with the franchise as Dorothy Finnerty, the 100-year-old fan who threw out the first pitch at this afternoon's Dodgers-Nationals game in Los Angeles.
Finnerty grew up in Brooklyn, which made the moment even more special, and she wore a No. 100 jersey while throwing out the first pitch to Dodgers catcher Drew Butera. Scully called the moment "thrilling" and "inspirational," and for someone who has called Dodgers games for 65 years now, it's rare that Scully witnesses a moment he hasn't seen before.
Finnerty's first pitch was, as Scully said, a "charming way to begin a game."
