The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, thanks to the Baltimore Orioles' 4-2 loss in Toronto, clinching the best record in the American League, meaning the Halos will open the 2014 playoffs at home against the American League Wild Card winner.


The Angels are 98-61 on the season, assured of finishing with a better regular season record than the American League East champion Orioles (95-65). The Halos own the best record in baseball, and were especially good at home, with a 52-29 record in Anaheim, best home mark in the game.


The American League Wild Card Game will be held on Tuesday, Sep. 30, televised by ESPN.


The Angels will open the American League division series at home on Thursday, Oct. 2, with the first two games in Anaheim. Angels manager Mike Scioscia has ace Jered Weaver lined up to pitch Game 1 of the ALDS in Anaheim, where weaver is 51-19 with a 2.38 ERA in 93 starts in the last six seasons.


"The way he threw the ball last time, you could see his stuff has been coming," Scioscia told Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com, "and I think he'll maintain it."

Game 2: Friday, Oct. 3 in Anaheim

Game 3: Sunday, Oct. 5 at AL Wild Card winner

Game 4*: Monday, Oct. 6 at AL Wild Card winner

Game 5*: Wednesday, Oct. 8 in Anaheim

The ALDS will be televised by TBS.


The Angels split six games against the Royals this season, winning two of three at home and dropping two of three in Kansas City. The Angels were 10-9 against the A's this season, including 7-3 in Anaheim.
