Liverpool and Everton are both a big banged up for the Merseyside Derby, but should still field very strong squads. The Reds have the larger volume of injuries, but the Toffees' absentee is likely to make a bigger impact on his squad.
The only player that Everton are missing for sure is Ross Barkley, arguably their best player from last season. With him gone, Everton aren't nearly as good at keeping the ball and end up a bit more direct. Seamus Coleman is also carrying a knock, but is expected to start, while Steven Pienaar will have to pass fit late to make the squad.
All of Jon Flanagan, Glen Johnson, Joe Allen and Emre Can are missing for Liverpool, while Jordan Henderson is coming back from a thigh injury, leaving Liverpool a bit thin in midfield and at fullback. However, Henderson is expected to be available. The same goes for Daniel Sturridge, who's been battling an injury as well.
Projected Liverpool XI (4-3-1-2): Simon Mignolet; Alberto Moreno, Dejan Lovren, Martin Skrtel, Javier Manquillo; Adam Lallana, Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson; Raheem Sterling; Mario Balotelli, Daniel Sturridge.
Projected Everton XI (4-2-3-1): Tim Howard; Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Sylvain Distin, Séamus Coleman; Gareth Barry, James McCarthy; Aiden McGeady, Steven Naismith, Kevin Mirallas; Romelu Lukaku.
This post will be updated when official lineups are made available.
