The Giants were the only ones in the National League Wild Card race to win on Tuesday night.

Tuesday was not a good night for National League Wild Card contenders, with the leading Giants winning, while each of the next five teams in the standings lost.

The Giants were down 7-1 to the Rockies at one point on Tuesday, but rallied against the soft Rockies bullpen for three runs in the sixth, then six more in the seventh in a 12-7 victory at Coors Field.

Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo was roughed up for seven runs in five innings by the Cubs in a 7-1 loss at Wrigley Field, the seventh straight loss for Milwaukee. The Brewers are now 2½ games behind the Giants, but are still in the second Wild Card position.

The Braves were shutout 4-0 by the Phillies, pushing Atlanta's offensive slump to 36 innings with just one run. The Pirates fell victim to Adam Wainwright both on the mound and at the plate. The Cardinals ace pitched into the seventh inning and drove in three runs to beat Pittsburgh, 6-4.

Giancarlo Stanton hit his league-leading 35th home run, but the Mets rallied for eight runs and 16 hits to outlast the Marlins, 8-6. Reds starter Mat Latos allowed four runs in the first inning in Baltimore in a 5-4 interleague loss to the Orioles.

Third-deck shot for Marte

Trying to comeback on Wainwright and the Cardinals, Pirates outfielder Starling Marte absolutely obliterated this ball for a two-run home run in the seventh inning. The reactions are priceless.

Petit is human

Giants starter Yusmeiro Petit in his last start extended his streak of consecutive batters retired to a record 46, but on Tuesday allowed six runs in four innings.
